GOP Group Seeks to Refocus Party on ‘Core Principles’

MPBN:

A group of Republicans, led by party activist Lance Dutson, has sent a memo to lawmakers and the news media outlining the history of the ongoing veto battle between Gov. Paul LePage and the Legislature.

The memo points out that, in his first term, LePage had no problem with lawmakers temporarily adjourning for more than 10 days. Dutson says Get Right Maine is trying to refocus Republicans on the party’s core principles and away from distractions.

“Certainly with all the chaos and tumult in the State House these days it’s important for Republicans to get back to their core principles,” he says.

Dutson says those fundamental principles are limited government, personal liberty and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. He says the motto of the new group is “Republicans for relevance, reason, and respect.”
